So I just got a Mybook Pro, and and I connected it via Firewire 800. But there's a problem. The drive starts up, but whenever I touch the cord and push it a bit, the drive turns off. If I then pull back on the plug towards me, the drive comes back to life.

I tried the firewire 800 cord in both directions. I assume this is a problem with my new macbook Pro? Ugh. I am so peeved. I have an apple repair center here at my school. any idea how long something like this would take to repair?

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks all

is the port actually lose? If it is, they will need to replace the logic board, or the board which the ports are on (not sure what the insides of a C2D MBP look like)

Try it with a different cable, and see how you go. Sounds odd, though.

Unfortunately i don't have access to another cable - FW800 isn't exactly very ubiquitous.

I guess I'll have to bring it in.

Same problem

I have the exact same problem. The port on my Powerbook G4 is not loose at all. Any ideas?

I'm curious as to how everything worked out. I know it was a few months ago, but my computer is still having the same problem.
