Apple TV 4K <-- HDMI1 --> Sony KD-49XH9196 <-- (e)ARC HDMI3 --> Samsung HW-Q600A 3.1Ch

On repeated occasions, the sound does not come through. I wait for the on-screen prompt stating "Audio System Connected" (or similar). When working, I hear the clicks as move around the menus / UI. Or no sound, which is the problem.

Do others have this issue? Same combo of devices, or at least the chained link between them?

Known fix? I just updated to AppleTV OS 16.0 (most current as of the day of this posting), but the same issue occurs.

I don't know yet what the fix is, but I change all audio based settings, back to Home Screen, then toggle them back. device can be rebooted a couple times. This is getting more frustrating!

Glad you started this thread because I have noticed the very same thing. It started with the tvOS 15.4 and continues with 16.0, like you. My Apple TV 4K connects to a Sony BRAVIA XR-65X90J via a Denon AVR-S760H, using these settings:

Denon AVR-S760H
HDMI Setup

HDMI Control: On
— ARC: On
— TV Audio Switching: On
— Power Off Control: All
— Power Saving: Off

HDMI Audio Out: AVR
HDMI PassThrough: On
— Pass Source: TiVo
— RC Select: Power On+Source

I use my Harmony One to reboot the Apple TV whenever it happens, and it happens way too many times. Shutting the whole system on and off also does the job. 🙄

The connection looks correct. What settings are you using with the ATV and the sound system? Also, does this issue occur with devices other than the ATV?

BTW, I don't have the same equipment. I have an ATV 4K 2017 connected via HDMI to a Sony Bravia XBR-49X800H which is connected to a Sony HT-G700 soundbar via HDMI ARC. I also have a Fire TV Cube and Blu-Ray player connected to the TV via HDMI.

@w5jck I have not noticed it with my Blu-ray player but then again I don’t use that very often. Here are my ATV settings:

Apple TV 4K Video Settings
Format: 4K HDR
Chroma: 4:2:2
Match Content: Off
Audio Format: Auto, Atmos Available

Are you using the ATV remote to control your system? I gave up on that a while back and just just my Logitech for everything.

@w5jck - currently, I only have these 3 devices. I have the same settings as @ubercool

@Gator5000e yes, only use the ATV remote. As above, i only use the ATV for content & media. TV isn’t even connected to the internet (on purpose).

I have had no issues with the Apple remote. Everything worked fine until 15.X. The Apple remote actually turns off ATV, the Logitech cannot.

It sounds like you lose your audio completely? I experience periodic drop outs in the audio. Duration is 1 to several seconds. ATV - Sony Receiver - LG OLED.

Yes, essentially seems that it doesn't recognise the HDMI-CEC attached device...

Equally frustrating seems to be a lack of a definitive solution. I am testing a few procedures on a recurring basis now, hoping to stumble upon one... While I hope Apple addresses the issue at hand.

Yes, agreed. I still regularly have this. My 7 year old said "this is just rubbish"...!

Please provide the link here to that post, so we can follow.

I have audio drop issues on my LG tv + Sonos Arc. I had the same issues with a TCL tv prior to LG. Incredibly frustrating and I've yet to figure out a solution, despite researching for months.

I thought I would follow up on my adventures with AppleTV and Sony. I decided to do a clean install of 15.6, which solved the problem. However, I often have to click the Home button after startup because I only see a black screen. Sometimes I have to click the Home button twice to get to the main apps menu.

tvOS 16.1 continues this relatively stable, but not perfect, state of affairs. 😏
