Intermittent New Mail Sound

Sometimes I get a new mail sound notification, most of the time not!

I have a yahoo account the mostly seems to work, but two other
accounts(1 imap google account and 1 pop3 account) that never
seems to make a sound notification on new mail.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix. 3G Iphone 2.1 firmware.
