Hi folks, n00b here.

This has not only happened with my iPhone 4, but with my 3G too.

IP4 -

It's done this about 4 - 5 times since launch. Randomly, my phone won't send or recieve texts (Freezes on sending, then fails minutes later)

Switching airplane mode on and off was a temp fix.. But last night I had to switch 3G off for it to work.

IP3G -

It happened a lot more, and I had to turn 3G off for a while to fix it.

Any idea what it could be? It can't be my sim card, because i switched to a new microSIM.

Thanks in advance

- B.

This has been happening to me too. On my 3GS on 3.1.3 and 4.0 as well as my ip4. It's not need to bad the last few days but before that I just lived with 3G off.

I think the majority of times it happens, I am at home. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I'll keep track of when and where it happens.

Same problem here with an iPhone 4. Sending takes ages then fails. Try again and it works.

For me it seems to be down to signal strength. There's no doubt that the new iPhone simply isn't getting as good a signal as the 3G handset did at my home. Nothing to do with the way I'm holding it, it just seems to struggle to get good reception here.

Anybody else having this issue?

Yes! As you're in the UK I assume you are on O2?

For the past 2-3 weeks both my Wife and I have been experiencing the same problem (She doesn't use an iPhone). She was complaining about not receiving texts that people had said they had sent her.

My iPhone wouldn't sent texts when on 3G - 90% of the text would send and then stop - often with a message "unable to send message". Switching to Edge cured the problem.

I contacted O2 and they confirmed they had been having maintenance problems in certain parts of the Country.

Seems to be ok now! Fingers crossed!

Hmmmm I called up O2 Customer Services yesterday after some messages weren't sending, and the guy was stumped. He went and spoke to his manager & neither of them we're able to give me an explanation.

Newbs

There is certainly something strange with O2! Yesterday, my daughter, who lives in London, sent my wife three texts and none of them arrived. Texts from the Midlands and the South West arrived OK!

The problem is the fact that if you are unable to send texts, or don't know if the are "sending", how many messages are you not receiving?!

Sometimes receiving texts will be delayed too. And very rarely I won't receive them at all.

My main gripe is my messages just 'hang' on sending. Then 1-2 minutes later will say Message Send Failure.

There doesn't seem to be a fix.

It can't be the phone. As it happened with my 3G and now my iP4.

It can't be the sim card. As I had a standard sim in my 3G, and a new MicroSIM in my new iP4.

Both phones were kept up to date too.

Maybe it's just O2?

Yeah, switching airplane mode on and off fixes it. As does turning off 3G.

But we shouldn't have to do that

Nothing works

Have tried turning airplane mode off and on, have tried switching phone off and on, have tried tunring 3 g off. No combination works. I cant send messages with attachments anymore and O2 cant (wont) help ... what next? iphone is great at many things ... but as a phone, I;m having doubts. :(:(:(

But we shouldn't have to do that

Very often, it's a network problem. I had a similar occurrence, 'phoned the network and was informed that part of the network was down because of power failure during routine maintenance. The problem was resolved within 24 hrs.

This has been happening for weeks ... it's a poor show, can't get any help - two phones in the house, 3g and 3gs, both have the same issue. Anyone have any ideas how to help? thanks.
