I have an old Que!Fire firewire CD-RW drive. Any chance I can buy a decent internal DVD burner and plop in that case??? Obviously, I know very little about such things, could use some advice.

You can but it will NOT be supported by iDVD. Only the Pioneer/Sony DVD-R/RW drives that ship standard are compatible with iDVD. Although there is a little hack that "sometimes" works. I believe its on:www.xlr8yourmac.com/

Also if this is a drive that burns CDs as well you may have trouble using Apple's burn software, or possibly even iTunes.
