I just ran a test using Black Magic Speed Test on my internal Toshiba HDD 5400rpm 750GB in my MacBook Pro mid 2012 (2.6GHz) and also ran a comparison test on my external WD 2TB HDD via FireWire 800.

The internal HDD results:
Write: 87.7MB/s
Read: 68.3MB/s

The external HDD via FireWire 800 results:
Write: 64.5MB/s
Read: 72.7MB/s

Being a newbie here, I was wondering if the above results are OK. I thought the external HDD via FireWire 800 should have been better results but then again I don't really know.

Anyone who can shine some light at this.
Thanks

FW800 is limited to 800Mbps (theoretical) max. SATA2 is 3Gbps, SATA3 is 6Gbps.

Either way, the speed of your external 2TB HDD is limited by FW800. Those numbers look normal to me.
