Hi,
Recently, all the homepages and default search bars on all my browsers got changed to Yahoo. When I opened firefox, it was the only browser to report the potential 'spigot' hijack.

.

Is this harmful to my computer since it seems to redirect me to Yahoo Search
(which doesn't seem harmful apart from the bit at the end of the urls).
The urls are...

Also are there any further steps or precautions I should take to resolve this hijack other than by simply changing my default browser and search bar? Thanks.

You should go through your browser add-ons and check if there are some that you don't recognize right away. According to a website I found by using Bing and the search term "spigot redirect" Website: http://www.spywareremove.com/removespigotredirect.html It could be a browser toolbar or add-on that does this.

There's more information on that website than what I just wrote down here.

I know the website I direct you to sounds dodgy spywareremove.com - what a name - maybe you can use any other search machine other than yahoo to locate a better site that explains things better than the above website.

To quote the first few lines of the site:
The Spigot Redirect is a symptom of infection by a Spigot.com-promoting browser hijacker. In most cases, SpywareRemove.com malware researchers have associated Spigot Redirect attacks with custom browser add-ons and toolbars. Although Spigot.com isn’t harmful to your computer, add-ons that use Spigot Redirect attacks can be considered malicious due to their unwarranted changes to your browser’s settings and their tendencies to update themselves without your permission.
