This evening, as my Internet connection is experiencing an outage that is expected to last until 6 am tomorrow, I experienced the limitation of using a HomePod as your exclusive device for music consumption. :(

Is there an option that I'm missing?

No iPhone, iPad, Mac with locally stored music?
My mac has my ripped CD collection, but I normally don't listen to that. I mostly just ask Siri to play random stuff. I have nothing on the phone.

Even with the mac on WiFi and playing local music, I couldn't see or stream it to the HomePod.

I'm not sure I fully understand the implications of locally stored music so I've been hesitant to use it. If I start doing that, the locally stored music be mixed in with my ripped music?

I was thinking you could use AirPlay to play music from your Mac on HomePod. Odd, it doesn't work. 🤔

Yes, I found that odd too.

With the Internet down, aside from trying the above, I needed to use my iPhone as a personal hotspot for the mac, so the mac really wasn't available.
