Every time I turn my laptop on, it boots up into the Internet Recovery screen.

I was wondering if it will format my drive if I use it? I still want to be able to keep all of my personal data and not lose anything, as I did not have a chance to backup any of it to another drive.

Booting to Internet Recovery is safe, it won't do anything you don't tell it to do. It won't automatically format anything. In fact, if you can't book your normal startup disk, it might be a good idea anyway to boot into Recovery and check your disk health and permissions with Disk Utility from Recovery.
