If activating internet sharing on OSX or Hotspot on iOS, will it data usage from the source to the MBP or iOS device? More specific detail:

We use a VSAT to access the internet. Most people have smartphones and tablets along with their computers. If I would receive an email via the VSAT to the computer and I have a iPhone and iPad connected via Internet sharing, will the data usage on the VSAT increase if the email is sent to the iPhone and iPad?

The main aim of this question is to manage broadband traffic in an enclosed crew situation in order to ensure reasonable broadband access to all.

So your asking if you receive an email on a computer, will your data usage increase when you receive the same message on another device like the iPad or iPhone?

Most likely yes, individual devices will be connecting to the Mail server (or any other service) on their own and thus downloading data for their own use.
