Internet speeds slow on 3GS with apps but not safari.

Things are downloading slow on the 3GS in apps. I tried on Wifi and with 3G. Stocks, Weather, Facebook, etc seem very slow to refresh. Safari seems super fast though. It also only happens sometimes. Is anyone else having these problems?
