So. I have a 2012 13" MacBook Pro (non Retina). Working with 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and 2.5GHz processor.

Normally I can get up to 40Mbps through my internet, with Ethernet.
However, at the moment, with WiFi, I'm getting 12/13Mbps. Is this normal? Anyway to fix this speed?

I'm using a BT Home Hub

Wireless is slower than wired, all the time, everytime. Those results are not surprising.

A better router and decent signal could help you achiever higher speeds though, you seem to be limited by that.

I'm running on N speed on the 5 Ghz band with 100mbit/100mbit fiber connected to a linksys AE4500.

No difference when i plug the cable. On the busy 2.4 Ghz band speed is not consistent. When the babyphone is on my speed down to around 1.5 MB/s and sometimes less. When its off speeds get better, but the 5 Ghz band is as good as empty around here and gets me the higher speeds. The 2.4 Ghz gives me the best range, so when I move away from the AP the 2.4 Ghz is faster.

802.11g (54 megabits sync speed max) only allows for 20-24 megabits best real-world speed. With 802.11n I can get around 13-14 megabytes/sec depending on the gateway so around 110-120 megabits. Still slows me down though because at work i was on 1000/1000 internet and at home i have 300 mbit down 150 mbit up so even N is not fast enough.

Changed some settings on my router...

Running on 802.11 n (40MHz)

I'm using a BT Home Hub vs. 3. My maximum speed down the ethernet cable is 38MB/s. BT are coming November 1st to upgrade us to 66.6MB/s.

I am also sitting roughly 10 meters, through 2/3 walls, away. I'll try again later, and closer.
