PowerProgress did an interview with Mr. Casey Cullen (head of the Fienix project), recently. They go into detail of how he got involved with PowerPC, where he got the idea of Fienix and why he decided to build it, along with talk about a complete 64-bit version of Fienix (which will take full advantage of the G5 hardware), among other cool points.

It's worth a read, especially for anyone interested or immersed in the PPC Linux space. :)

If I can get Linux to run on my G5 Quad, I may unbox it again. My video card is the Nvidia 256MB version. For some reason any flavor of Linux is giving me the same issue - when the splash screen comes up I get a blank screen while its loading up. I am not sure what the issue is.

Did you try Debian Sid?

Specifically, this revision?

I've got your same card, and as far as graphical issues go, it's been mostly smooth sailing with any Linux flavors.

It's been mostly smooth sailing with any distro I've tried on PowerPC, out of the box.
