I am currently running Mountain Lion and FCP 7 on my 2009 iMac. This computer has been upgraded several times and was running Leopard and FCP 6 when I started over 3 years ago. I recently noticed that certain Quicktime files from a particular XDCAM HD422 codec I use at work are giving this error when being played back in Quicktime 7 on my system, "An invalid movie atom was found in the movie." Trying to open up in Final Cut results in a "1 file identified, 0 access denied" error. Interestingly Quicktime X plays the files just fine.

Our work computers (where most of this is worked on) are still running Leopard and can read these just fine. After doing some research, I discovered that many users had similar issues after installing Security Update 2011-006 and/or iTunes 10.5 during either Snow Leopard or Lion. They gave some instructions on how to replace various Quicktime library files but doing so just causes Quicktime 7 to crash completely for me until I put everything back the way it was.

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Because my mac is old enough, I've considered trying to partition and dual boot in Leopard but I don't want to go through that trouble if it's likely to not work. It's not "essential" I open up these files at home, but would be nice if I had to make a quick edit out of the office. Thanks for your help!
