So this is a first for me. I have a personal XS with Verizon on eSIM, and I use my work physical SIM (also Verizon) in the slot.

A couple of days ago, my phone stopped connecting to anything. eSIM said No Signal, physical SIM said SIM Failure/Invalid SIM. Tried reset network settings, power cycle, etc.; the only way I got the phone to read the eSIM was to pop out the work SIM.

It still doesn't make sense to me why a bad physical SIM would also cripple the eSIM. Anyone else have experience with this?

That sounds more like a modem issue than anything else. Has the phone been damaged or exposed to water recently? The first thing that I would do is a DFU restore and set up as new to see if it repeats itself. If so, I would try new SIM cards. If it continues after that, then I would send her off to Apple.
