I was hoping to see an inventory application for the various collections I have. Something where for each collection I have I can have different fields to manage. Maybe even allow a picture as one of the fields. I don't really care if this is a Mac app that outputs something I can see on my iPhone, an iPhone only app, or a combo app that runs on both and keeps each other in sync. But I know I hate not having my collection lists with me when I go to purchase something and end up getting a duplicate.

Anyone seen such a beast or know if anyone is developing something like this?

Handbase is probably the best and most robust database on iphone. I have all of them and reviewed them all. Specifically for collecting / inventory of items you may wish to look into My Stuff database as it's tailored specifically for that.
