Just noticed this happening in SL the last few days - app icons in my dock are starting to become invisible. The white dot underneath shows that it is running, but there is no icon.

The icons are present on the apps themselves, but also do not show up when I look at stacks.

Any clue as to how to fix this, or is it just yet another SL bug?

Just to add: killing the Dock doesn't fix it, quitting the Finder doesn't fix it, and restarting the computer doesn't fix it.

Have you tried killing and restarting your dock? I haven't had this issue at all on SL 10.6.0 or .1

Yep. Nothing happens. Seems to be since 10.6.1 - there is a thread on Apple Support about it. People seem to have success after restarts or killing the Dock/Finder, but nothing here.

Going back to Leopard this weekend I think, this is pretty much the last straw with SL!

That's definitely odd. Are these icons you normally have in your dock? I noticed one thing that I don't really think is related, but sometimes when I change an icon for an app I have in my dock, it'll change everywhere else except the dock. Even quitting the dock/finder and restarting won't fix it. The only thing I've found that will fix it is dragging the app off the dock, then pinning it back.

It also makes sense that your icon would be invisible in stacks, since it's part of the dock. It's definitely an odd one. Wish I had more help to give.

Yeah regular icons - World of Warcraft, TweetDeck, now Zuma's Revenge (game from PopCap I just downloaded last week).

Dragging off and replacing items doesn't fix it.

Possibly academic now as I'm just about to hit "install" on Leopard

Will give that a try, thanks! I did notice also that icons in the application switcher (command-tab) are jagged and low res, as are icons in stacks (but not all of them, only some).

Having this same issue, for the past day now. Have restarted many times and killed the dock, and that fixed most of the icons, now I only have photo booth missing.

The following is what fixed it for me:

I know this is the same as what everyone else is saying, but the order I needed to do the steps in was such for it to work for me.

1. Drag the invisible icon out of dock (poof!)
2. Use the terminal command to kill the dock. (In Terminal, type what is IN the quotes : "killall Dock" )
3. Then create a new. (drag from the applications folder back into the dock)

How about in my situation...my Finder and Trash icons are the invisible in my Dock and i can't remove them...What do i suppose to do?

They're invisible, that is, you can't see them. And you know they are there because.... ? You see the name when you put your cursor over a blank spot, or what?

Yes...,and i can still used them but this is not the only problem, that they are invisible.I can't aslo right click on the Dock, this happened when i changed my icons by candy bar...

Y... this happened when i changed my icons by candy bar...
Ah ha! At least we now know it was user-caused. There must be 100 topics on this forum alone where that app created havoc.

As suggested above:
com.apple.dock.plist
Find it in HD?Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences
Move that file to the Desktop and Restart.

It's worth a try.

Then uninstall CandyBar.

Solved!!

This appears to be some type of odd user cache issue. I downloaded Leopard/Snow Leopard/Lion Cache Cleaner and did a "Deep" cleaning and cleaned out ALL caches and BOOM! Fixed for good.
