Looking for help - my son's iPhone 6S was lost or stolen. I have a backup 5C that I've activated until his 6S can be retrieved. I want to restore the 5C to a previous backup in my iTunes, but it will automatically install iOS 10.3.3 and I've read that the iOS is bricking 5C phones. Anybody have experience with a 5C and 10.3.3? The current iOS on the 5C is 8.4. Any advice?

Do you have any iCloud backups for that phone?

Is the backup you are trying to restore to in iTunes of a higher version than iOS 8.4? If so, that may be why iTunes wants to upgrade the phone.

You can't restore a backup from a higher version of iOS to a device running a lower version.

Thanks guys. His girlfriend gave him her old 6, so he's going to run with that model until he can afford to buy a 7 or 8.
