Face ID appears to be the official marketing name for what’s been referenced as Pearl ID, the facial recognition features that will likely replace the Touch ID fingerprint recognition feature. There’s also this video tutorial for setting up the Face ID feature:

This basically confirms everything we've heard. The only thing left to learn is when this mystical device will actually be in our hands...

I'm actually disappointed this leaked. It's just ridiculous. Apple has to be beyond pissed

Man Apple can’t be pleased. This spoils the Apple Watch LTE, the display res, home button and power button, hell even the wallpapers haha.

It's the GM, I expect them to find virtually everything noteworthy... especially if they gave the firmware to those two guys that leaked everything in the Homepod firmware. They're like software detectives

More interested in what theyre going to price it and availability than anything now.

Ugh! Ugly notch I hate it. I guess my assumption for double clicking power button to invoke Apple Pay was spot on. Stole my idea. /s
So curious how well Face ID works. People will embrace it or blame its failure all the way to next iPhone for improvement.
