I removed the standard ios calendar app and reinstalled it. I created an event in calendar app... selected edit.. and did not see "add attachment" as an option!!
Edit: I just saw the iphone 8 plus that was readily able to "add attachment" in an event in the calendar app
Did "add attachments", in an event, in calendar app, only become available after 7 Plus?
