Apple today released iOS 13.7, a major update that comes more than a month after the release of iOS 13.6. iOS 13.7 is an update that's being introduced to roll out a new Exposure Notifications System that does not require an app to be downloaded for the feature to be turned on.

The iOS 13.7 updates are available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Apple has also released a new version of iPadOS 13.7, but as Exposure Notifications don't work on the iPad, the iPad update focuses on bug fixes.

With iOS 13.7, Apple is adding Exposure Notifications Express, a feature that lets public health authorities that choose to participate provide an Exposure Notification system without having to do the work to develop an app.

After updating, iOS 13.7 users will see a new Exposure Notification section in the Settings app (it used to be in the Privacy settings) where there's a toggle to "Turn on Exposure Notifications."

Activating Exposure Notifications lets you know if the feature is available in your country, state, or region through a contact tracing app. In areas that are participating in the Exposure Notifications Express program, users will be able to turn on Exposure Notifications without the need to download an app.

Apple this morning said that Maryland, Nevada, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. will soon be adopting Exposure Notifications Express, and more U.S. states could follow in the future. Using Exposure Notifications Express will require iOS 13.7, and even though it works without an app in some areas, it is still entirely opt-in.

In areas that do not participate in Exposure Notifications Express, attempting to toggle on Exposure Notifications will direct users to an app created by a public health authority in their state if one is available, or it will let them know that Exposure Notifications are not yet available in their area.

iOS 13.7 is likely to be one of the final updates to the iOS 13 operating system as Apple shifts its focus to iOS 14. We could see iOS 14 released in the coming weeks if the update is decoupled from new iPhones, or in October when the new iPhones are expected to debut.

Glad they're offering this for the 3 states that opted in (yes, I know more European countries are on board).

Means: This update is as solid as it gets. No Bugs, No glitches.
I guess we will see once many install and use it. Hopefully that's the case, although there are certainly bugs/glitches that have been present in iOS 13 even from earlier releases and were still there in later releases, so there's a good chance they might still be around.

That said, even the release notes are already "glitching":
Apple completely screwed up patch notes 🤣

Not with a ten foot pole.

Downloading iOS versions with this tracking is agreeing to Tyranny. 13.4.1 forever.

A location tracking device, audio and text spying, social control and modification - are you getting it yet? A location tracking device, audio and text spying, social control and modification - it's not 3 devices, it's one

I still don't quite understand this new exposure notification API... Is it just like before, but now you don't need the app? How can people input their "positive" status without an app? In the settings? I don't get it...

I'm hoping for more bug fixes than anything. I still have some lingering iOS 13 issues.

Could someone clarify some privacy elements of this exposure notification. When I am notified that I have been exposed to someone who is positive, is anyone else notified or is it my personal information to act on? In other words, when I find this out, do the authorities also find out that I have been exposed? Or Only me? This is the major reason why I am not getting involved in this program yet but perhaps if someone could clear things up I may have things wrong?

Tried to set it up on my phone and the phone says that my region (state) has an exposure notification app, then takes me to the app store to download the app that doesn't exist.

Good job, Apple. Good update.

For the record, the only states that support this are Alabama, Nevada, North Dakota (spelled North Dakoda in the app store ), Virginia, and Wyoming.

Even posting on an online forum is already pretty much antithetical to that, let alone using any connected device (no matter what OS or version of OS it might be running).

Based on speculation. I like to stay positive.
Odd thing to speculate about as it doesn't really say much one way or another and can be misleading when stated in terms that don't involve speculation. Unless the actual meaning there is to say that one hopes that this version is free of bugs and glitches and is solid and polished.

I am sitting here watching my iPad Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max update. Amazing how long these updates take considering the speed of these devices. That said, they don't happen all that often so they're not disruptive (and I can do them when I want).

Just, figured, a 150mb update would be a little faster :p.
