I was pairing a new Apple Watch. I already have another Apple Watch paired. And I immediately got a notification that a new iOS was available: 13.7. It forced me to upgrade otherwise it would not allow me to pair a new watch.

Now every time I try to pair it keeps telling me I need to update my iOS.

I have reset all settings the only thing I have not done is a full restore.

I even tried using a different iPhone that I have and it did the exact same thing forcing me to update to 13.7.

If I am able to get past the screen that asks me to update my OS, it still does not work the Apple Watch just stays on the waiting to connect and never gets past that.

Hardware I’m using:
IPhone 11 Pro Max now on iOS 13.7
Also tried it on iPhone 8 Plus now on 13.7

Apple Watch series 5 44mm

Also: I do get a message saying the watch needs to be updated, I’ve tried to update but will not, i tried skipping update but just gets stuck on connecting to watch screen.

the watch is under Apple warranty so I’m too worried, I’ll end up taking it to Apple store unless I confirm there is a bug on IOS 13.7. If so I’ll just use it as a very very nice paper weight temporarily 🤷‍♂️ till Apple fixes it.

What software is the watch on? If it is a second hand watch, the previous owner might have installed watchOS 7 beta and that require the phone to run ios 14 beta.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. That is exactly what happened. I bought it from a friend of a friend. And they just confessed they did exactly that. So they installed Beta OS7 on the watch. They did not know it will only connect to beta IOS now only. So I may take it to Apple to restore unless they want to charge a lot. then I'll just wait.

They will restore for free.
