I’ve been using my new 12.9” iPad for most of the day now and it is awesome. But in switching between it and my 13” rMBP I notice one thing - everything on the iPad Pro is huge. I use my rMBP in a scaled 1440x900 resolution, so UI elements are smaller, text is smaller and in general I can fit more content on screen. On the iPad this option doesn’t exist. And I know you still have to keep things “tappable”, but the iPad already has larger touch targets than any iOS device, and we already have the iPad Mini which has iPhone-size touch targets.
I’m really hoping iOS 13 will bring display scaling to let the iPad Pro have more room to breathe on the screen. I’m sure the A12X can handle it, and it isn’t unwarranted for Apple (the Plus line of iPhones rendered at 3x resolution then downscaled to 1920x1080 for display.) This would let people who like the larger text/icons/UI have their way as they do right now, and those that want to have apps display more content in the same space can do so if they please.
This is probably #4 on my list of things I am hoping for in the next iOS update, behind Xcode, trackpad support, and external filesystem support. It sounds like a lot, but there isn’t much else iOS needs to add at this point, other than a much needed homescreen refresh.
