iOS 14.0.1, 2016 SE, picture in picture no longer working

I'm using iOS 14.0.1 on a 2016 SE. When iOS 14 was released, I could use picture in picture video. That feature has silently stopped working.

When I'm watching a video in Safari, I go to full screen, then hit the home button. I see brief flash of the picture in picture video just as it switches to the home screen and then it disappears.

Any idea what is going on?

Is this for any video from any web site on Safari? Is it like that for apps as well?

Good questions.

I face the problem when viewing videos from youtube in safari.

I just tried a couple of other scenarios:
- video from twitter in safari works fine.
- video from facebook in whatsapp works fine.

So the problem seems specific to youtube/safari.

When it comes to YouTube that seems to be something that's inconsistent at best and doesn't seem to be supported based on the most recent experiences:

YouTube PIP must turn off again. Worked great when YT switch it back on.
