I recently updated iOS on my iPhone X. When I checked my email a few hours later, an email I sent in October appeared in the Drafts folder, then disappeared.

When I checked the Sent folder a couple of minutes later, there was no sign it had been sent again. Has anyone else experienced this after updating to iOS 14.3? And is there any way to find out whether the email was actually sent again? Contacting the recipient isn't really an option in this case. To paraphrase Rick Blaine, of all the emails to all my contacts, it had to resend that one.

I deleted the Mail app and downloaded Outlook following the incident. So far, no sign of random old emails appearing in Drafts.

My IOS 14.3 updated itself one night, but the next morning, my OUT box had 32 old emails. Some were birthday greetings—untimely to send today—many I do not recall the content.

ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM

The same is happening on my MBP runnng Big Sur.

I start a new email. Close it. Mail asks if I want to save it and I say "Don't Save".

It remains in "Drafts" until I delete it.

What's odd about the incident with my phone is that the old email didn't appear in my Sent folder after appearing and then disappearing from Drafts.

The email that appeared and then disappeared from my Drafts folder was one I sent in October. It doesn't appear in the Sent folder, so I have no idea whether or not it was randomly re-sent.

The emails that I find in Drafts are possibly autosaved versions of unfinished emails that I've closed and not wanted to save as Drafts.

The ones that I have actually finished writing, then sent immediately do go into the Sent folder which I can then manually transfer to a folder or delete, depending on if it's something I need to keep.

The ones still in Drafts seem to be unfinished that I've not wanted to keep or send.

I'm hoping that OS 11.2 will fix many of the long term bugs in Mail.app.

ie: I still don't get the notifications and alerts configured in Mail.app's preferences, like different sounds for different senders or recipients.

Sometimes Notifications configured in System Preferences do work and other times they don't.
