I know there are numerous threads about this, but I still can't believe Apple hasn't sorted the iMessage/SMS notifications bug not waking the lock screen.

And not only does this affect the phone, but sometimes the Apple Watch too.

I have noticed that I'll get notifications on my watch, sometimes, but when I take it off, they don't wake the lock screen on my phone. If I turn my watch off, then they wake it. Most of the time. There has to be a correlation here.

Basic functionality? Nah. Here. Have some new emoji.

Like, how the hell is this still a thing?

Just annoying because sometimes it'll work, most of the time not.

And I don't feel like erasing and setting up both my phone and watch again. I shouldn't have to really. And turning bluetooth off, as that seems to work for some, isn't really a viable solution either.

Any chance you have set up a mac to receive the messages too?

Yeah. I noticed a correlation there too. Text message forwarding screws something up. But it’s intermittent. Seems somewhere, something got messed up with the overall functionality.

Ok. After deciding not to reset and restore my phone from new, I have noticed something.

Signing out of iMessage on my Mac, message notifications now wake my lock screen.
If I sign back in, it'll work for a bit, then the bug rears its ugly head.

This is what's working for me until Apple gets their sh*t together with fixing some basic functionality that was working just fine a month or two ago until they did whatever the hell it is that they do.

Weirdly I haven't had any problems with imessage notifications for the past couple weeks, even though I was previously having multiple duds per day all through 14.2 and 14.3 . My guess is it's a server side issue (at least partly) and they've been trying stuff behind the scenes. Nothing to back this up besides not having the issue any more and no software updates.

Never had the SMS issue and I don't have any other phones or Macs so only one imessage device.

I am noticing flaky behavior on notifications across multiple devices - iPad, iPhone and Mac. When a message comes in, I would expect notifications to hit on all devices, but most of the time, I am only getting a sound notification on one of the devices (seemingly chosen at random), but I normally get visual notifications across all devices. It almost seems that the iOS software detects proximity of the devices and chooses one, but that seems very unlikely - I suspect that it is some sort of bug.

This is very annoying as at a minimum, I want my iPhone to show and sound all notifications and I can’t seem to figure out any reason why it doesn’t do it 100% of the time.

Signing out of iMessage on all my other devices has made notifications on my phone (and subsequently, my watch) work.
They may implemented something that gives notification priority to whatever device is currently active, but it doesn't seem to work as intended, as I won't get notifications on my phone if my Mac is asleep if I am signed in on my Mac.

I've submitted a bug report to feedback nd hopefully it gets sorted.

Yep - it is logical that this will work, but it defeats the purpose of 'buying into' the Apple ecosystem where regardless of the device I use, I have a similar experience. I would tend to agree that Apple unsuccessfully tried to quietly implement some sort of neat functionality.
