When iOS offloads an app, that app normally displays a download icon: screenshot 2020-09-24 at 09.00.02.jpg

But after upgrading to iOS 14 I've found that some offloaded apps do not have the icon:

The icon for the Quik app (GoPro) does not have an icon indicating that it has been offloaded.

However, when I went to open the app, I got this surprise:

At that point I was out at sea on a dive boat, so there's no way I could get that needed app.

Apparently, there is no no way to make sure an app is actually present on your iPhone is to try to open the app.
