So Apple bought out Dark Sky and their hyper-local weather reporting. But the full-size app still shows the Weather Channel as the source.
The widget gives us a generic location - like the city name - yet opening the full-size app (if you scroll to the bottom of the page) shows the name of the actual location upon which it is reporting. And opening up reporting stations, the app shows that 'My Location' is active, and is different from the city. I also see the widget doesn't seem to stay current. But I understand that was not the intent of Apple widgets - that they weren't meant to be 'live'.

It kind of defeats the purpose of all the information that Apple bought or accesses if it turns out the app and widget are actually less-informative than the products they replaced. Take advantage of hyper-local reporting and actually label the location correctly on the widget, and offer settings within the app to take advantage of everything Dark Sky was capable of. And ensure the widget remains current - especially important in these 'challenging' weather days.

Until all that changes on the 'free' front, I'm more prone to go with (in Canada) The Weather Network's widget (which actually shows location - albeit sometimes failing to refresh - and when it was last updated on the widget. But the full-size app is a bit of design / ad disaster), or my go-to - the much cleaner (less ad-heavy) WeatherXL, though it doesn't yet have an iOS 14 widget. And the occasional visit to the still-active Dark Sky website.

Come on Apple. Use the technology you bought and have at hand.
