Hi, I have iPad Pro 10.5 2017 with iPad OS 13.6. I am satisfied with the speed. Battery life is OK (but it is not bad). I am not big fan of every availble update (because of speed vs battery live). Now I am thinking about update iPad OS 14.7 (and then stay there again some time). Would you recommend me it from speed vs battery point of view? Or should I stay on iOS 13. Give me your opinion. Thx

I am on iPadOS 14.7. and battery life is extremely poor. It's not a good version for me, but I haven't tried 14.7.1.
Considering how iOS and iPadOS 14 have been, you'd probably be better off waiting a bit still.

Ouu, that is not good to hear it. I expected very good result on the battery life (because iPhone 7=same generation of the chip, had very good improvement). And speed on iOS 14.7 is no problem for this iPad?

I have iPad Air 3, 14.7.1 is one of the best version (was 13.7). Stable. Battery is also very good. Battery usage during idle (ie at night) is flat. I only use iPad for book reading and conf call (zoom / ms team).

Actually, the A10X uses TSMC’s 10 nm, which is also used in the iPhone 8’s A11. The iPhone 7’s A10 used 16 nm. This was an unusual move since the iPhone usually gets the new chip architectures first. But since the A11 wasn’t out yet, they had to call it A10X instead of A11X, which may have technically been a more suitable name, except for the fact that it doesn’t have a neural engine.
I had a 10.5 but upgraded a few weeks ago to M1. The 10.5 was fine on iPadOS 14 but it is 4 years old at this point. If your battery life isn’t great you could replace the battery before new batteries get too hard to find. It’s still a great device to use today and it’s held up very well. My guess is that it’ll get iPadOS 16 for sure and probably 17 too. The A10X doesn’t have a neural engine like the A11 though, and I bet that at some point the neural engine will be the determining factor when it comes to which devices will get the next update.

I am running an 10.5 ipad pro (2017) with 512GB and 4G with 14.7.1 and its running absolutely fine.
Will prob not change this iPad for ages, it feels like it hasn't aged at all and are working perfectly fine.

One of the main reasons to update (just as you do windows update or MacOS update) is to get the latest security patches, to stick to an older OS just cuz of speed isn't reason enough.

I am not using facebook or google apps on the iPad and are quite restrictive of what I allow apps to do, maybe that has been the solution that I have never had any battery issues or speed problems.

Ok, it seems that iOS 14 is not yet for iPad Pro 2017 slower update. I am thinking about apdate last time/for long time and stay there.

I have your same iPad pro 10.5 2017 with 512GB: stay on os 13.6
Battery is draining without doing anything,
Home and Lock screen in the last 24 hours 6%
No apps background refresh allowed
Could you please check yours and let us know?

On my 10.5-inch iPad Pro (iPadOS 14.7.1), Find My is still the top most used battery app on idle.
