Apple announced iOS 15 on Monday, and as usual, there is a long list of smaller features that went unmentioned during the WWDC keynote.

One of these small but helpful features is archived passes in the Wallet app. Starting with iOS 15, expired boarding passes and event tickets in the Wallet app are automatically moved to an expired list, helping to reduce clutter.

In the Settings app under Wallet & Apple Pay, there's a toggle switch for hiding expired passes that is enabled by default. Users who prefer to have expired passes shown alongside current passes can disable the setting.

Apple is making the Wallet app a lot more useful in iOS 15. In addition to digital boarding passes, tickets, and car keys, users can now add digital house keys, which can be tapped to unlock a compatible HomeKit door lock. Hotel room key cards can also be added to the Wallet app from a participating hotel provider's app. Hyatt Hotels will be rolling out the feature to over 1,000 of its properties worldwide in the fall.

Another interesting new feature is the ability to add a driver's license and/or ID from participating U.S. states to the Wallet app and present them securely at TSA checkpoints at airports. Apple says this feature will be available in late 2021, suggesting that it will be enabled at some point after the initial public release of iOS 15.

OK. That's a nice little improvement.

Maybe it's just me, but this has been the least interesting WWDC I can recall - and not because my mid-2014 MBP will not be allowed in the party. Usually, there are a few things I'm genuinely looking forward to. This time around, I'm having a hard time finding anything to get too excited about. Maybe that'll change in time, as OS improvements can sometimes be awesome once implemented as part of your daily workflow. I'm open...

Insurance cards?!

For years now, I usually pluck a couple choice cards from my wallet when I go out. And as a bike commuter, an entire wallet can be a hassle if it's summer weather and I don't have a pannier. I would love to always have my health insurance card on my person for those increasingly common times that I leave the physical wallet at home (e.g., bike rides, stroll to dinner, etc).

I love all these "finally" things that Apple is fixing and making it better. There always seemed to be so many obvious "why don't you just do this" that are finally coming to light. Pretty stoked about iOS15 and all the little things that make it all easier

My insurance has had a digital card for the wallet for a few years, but it's practically useless. Even though it contains the same information, I'm still told they "need the actual card."

the collection of old trips/tickets is pretty cool to flip through sometimes - going down memory lane.
This is exactly why I never deleted mine.

Do you keep all your movie stubs, concert tickets, etc. as well?

Now that I’ve unhid, is there a way to re-hide?

Cool, I just found a bunch of zombie boarding passed in there this morning when I went to add a new one.

I still don’t understand that you can’t add barcodes or QR-Codes from any card. I have a lot of member cards that don’t have an app. It would be nice to simply scan/copy the code onto a card.
I have an app called mobile-pocket for all the barcodes to scan and cards to show that are not in the Apple wallet.

I think the biggest thing Apple announced at WWDC was the thing about driver's licenses and the TSA...

Does anyone know when/which states that's coming to?

so -- they did something obvious they should have done years ago?
It only took 7 years for an option to sort notes alphabetically (instead of only by creation date)…. How could the product manager for the wallet not see an expiration feature was needed the first time she or he took a flight?

At one point I had ~40 old passes...finally stopped using the wallet app because it was so cumbersome to delete them.

That's so they can run it through their scanner. insurance fraud is a real thing, but it's not like a card isnt easy to forge.

and that's what I'm waiting for now...a site where you can download stolen license images, add your own picture, and upload to wallet...or simply to photos.

And now, if you could group those per provider and keep the loyalty/status cards in special area while you are at it, please
I think as wallet fills up with more and more things and different kinds of things (keys, IDs, credit cards, gift cards, coupons, tickets, membership cards, rewards cards, etc), Apple will need to implement a way to organize the things into groups. But you still want things to be very quickly accessed so it’ll be interesting to see how Apple solves this.

Shame, I find it somewhat mesmerising scrolling through my previous boarding passes. And satisfying organising them
by airline too. Although that’s probably just me…

It's not just you. I have pretty much every boarding pass since about 2016. I just leave them in chronological order. It's kind of a fun little memento.

Have been keeping mine too. Have also got movie tickets.
