In iOS 15, the Photos app has been given a significant update that includes a richer Info pane to view information about a photo in your library, such as the camera, lens, and shutter speed used, the file size of the image, and where the image came from if it was saved from within another app.

In another notable addition, you can also edit the date and time when a photo was taken. Here's how it's done in the latest ‌iOS 15‌ developer beta, a version of which will be available to the public in July.
  1. Launch the Photos app and tap a photo to select it.
  2. Tap the info button (the encircled "i" icon) below the image.
  3. Tap Adjust next to the date and time.
  4. Use the calendar and the time dial to choose a new date and time, then tap Done.

Elsewhere in Photos, iOS 15 features a considerable update to Photo Memories, which now feature a new design, integration with Apple Music, a more interactive interface, and more intelligent memory types, such as improved pet memories, including the ability to recognize individual dogs and cats.

For more information on iOS 15, check out our dedicated roundup. Apple will make ‌iOS 15‌ available for general release this fall.

Why would this be useful? Serious question! Change evidence? 😂
I’m not sure either. You’d think someone in computer forensics would be able to see the date change, just a guess on my part. Like you said unless someone is going to try to get out of a crime by doing this, or perhaps to say there’s no way I was cheating on you. Look at the time stamp. That I could see. Otherwise why would anyone change that. It’s a memory of a specific date/time.

Can you also change location? I always have to go to my Mac to set location.

As to why you would change date and location. Not all pictures are taken with an iPhone! When I take pictures with my camera, they don’t have location information, so I input those on my Mac after upload. Great if I could do it on my iPad. Also, the camera might not have the correct date and time, for example when you travel to a different time-zone and forget to change the time in the camera. So, it’s nice to be able to correct it.

This is not new. I have used this feature in Photos for many years. I scan old family photos from the 50's through the 00's, fix them up, and of course the date on the picture is then the current scan date rather than the year and day it was actually shot on film. So, in Photos, I have always been able to change the date and make a correct geotag in Photos app.

Yes. I have scanned old family photos for years now, and in all versions of Photos I have fixed the date and LOCATION to the actual place and time the picture was shot.

typically there's still a hard "creation date" as well
Maybe a "hard creation date" is present when you "export original" from Photos, but not sure. I have sent and shared scanned photos with other family members that I have date-corrected and location-corrected from Photos (shared album they download from or airdropped), and the changed date and place sticks with the photo into their device.

Yes, on Mac. I have been doing that. But the question is: can you now do it in iOS.

I usually upload pictures from my camera to iPad during travel. But then I have to go to my Mac when I get home and change location. Great if it could be done in iOS (in bulk).

So if this is true then it makes photographic or video evidence inadmissible in a court of law. All any attorney has to do is claim the meta data of a picture was modified.

This makes much more sense in an app on your computer than on your phone, which records both time and location data.

Sure, if I use a DSLR without these (or forget to change the time zone) I adjust the date/time or the location. But on an iPhone it seems unnecessary.

I upload my camera photos to my iPad. Or sometimes to my iPhone. Why doesn't it make sense I can put location information there? Why do I have to go to my Mac?

If you ever import photos from a DSLR or GoPro, and the time is wrong (forgot to change time zones), this is useful. Yes, you can do this on a Mac, but the whole point is that iOS and iPadOS are converging more and more with macOS. There's an expectation you'll be able to do more of these things on your iPhone or iPad.

You could also receive photos, on your iPhone/iPad, from someone who didn’t have the right info set when they took the pictures, and you want to adjust it so that it appears in the proper timeframe and location in your photos.
