One of the new features of iOS16 is the addition of a sound when the phone boots up. And as a good tester, it was one of the options I activated.

On Friday I got my Iphone 14 Pro and last night I was woken up by the reboot sound while it was charging on the nightstand (around 2 am or so based on the battery chart). Indeed, when I woke up, the phone asked me to enter the code instead of Face ID, but not the SIM code.

The truth is that with my previous mini 13 some mornings when I woke up and unlocked the phone I was asked for the code, but I had never associated it with a mysterious reboot at night (actually very rare thing, but time to time happened). Now the new reboot sound has told me that's what happened: a clear reboot (but without SIM re-entering code?).

Does this happen to anyone else, is this a normal occurrence?

When few days ago I did a hard reboot without charger (voice up, down and then power up until Apple logo) I was also surprised that phone has not asked me for SIM pin.

Checked that and option to require it was still enabled.

Maybe it’s related, as they changed a way it’s done?

I had the same reboot last night at around 2AM as well on my iPhone 14Pro 16.01. I had turned on the boot up sounds yesterday and was woken up by the sound.

I believe the night before it may have done the same, as I had to enter my password in the morning.

What a relief to feel that I am not alone.
Same time, same behaviour, suspicious 👀

For the moment I have disabled the reboot sound to avoid waking up again to this new reboot-gate.

I looked in the Analytics Data and there is a report called "assets.diskwrites_resource" that was created around that time. No idea what it means.

are you guys by chance seeing a SystemMemoryReset in the analytic logs around the time of the reboot?

I’m seeing the same on my 14PM because I use BackTap to enable silent mode without actually using the switch and when I wake up in the morning my sounds are back on.
Pretty sure I remember this on the 13PM with 16.0. Can’t say what’s triggering it.

I was always told that if your device is locked and unused for a duration of time, the system will ask for it. This is especially accurate on my iPad though, don’t think I’ve experienced it on my phone but I don’t recall. I DO know sometimes I’m asked to put in my password at random times. Always unsure why.

This is true, but the prompt to the user is different when you need passcode for inactivity versus restart.

It happened again yesterday night 😭 just woke up and the iPhone asked for password and Lock Screen looked with all widgets blank

I had a random reboot over night with my 13 Pro Max last week seemingly random too...

I'm thinking about doing a fresh install once 16.1 comes out today.
