After updating to iOS 16.1 the Photos app found 7.180 duplicates of the 93.226 photos in the app (cloud).
Before I could do anything the picture count of my library went from 93.226 to 89.636 or 3.590 less photos (2x3.590 = 7.180) so it looks like iOS 16.1 has automatically merged these duplicates without putting the duplicates to the „Recently Deleted“ folder. There are only 8 pictures in the „Recently Deleted“ folder and 0 photo in „Duplicates“ folder now. It seems I just have to trust that these where actual duplicates. iOS 16.1 just deleted them permanently. Anyone else experience this?

Is the "duplicates finder" only available if you use iCloud Photos? I don't sync my photos to iCloud, and I'm not seeing anywhere in the Photos app on iOS 16.1 where it gives me duplicate finding functionality. Under "Utilities" all I see is Imports, Hidden, and Recently Deleted.

Wanted to test this myself.

Duplicate photos doesn’t really work. Could be a bug 🐜….
