I dont see the new iOS features are especially requiring performance wise at all.
Fitness app, edit or unsend message, three widgets on the lock screen, none of these should require anything special. Most likely iPhone 15 will introduce new OS features as well which might require newer hw.

Copying a person or an object out of a picture requires at least an A12 processor, thus not beeing available on iPhone 8, 8Plus and X.
But I guess that's about it when it comes to feature limitations on older devices.

Sorry, forgot about that feature :). It seems its not working on my Xs.
That's strange, it worked on my XS.

Thank you all so far.

Apple pretty much drew the new feature line at iPhone XR and XS for iOS and M1 iPad for iPadOS. These devices or newer get most or all of the features (other than missing hardware ones).

Some of the biggest features missing on the XR are probably the new Live Captions and the astronomy wallpaper. The list of missing features for iPhone X and 8 is quite a bit longer.

I never got the weather animations in iOS 15 to appear on my iPhone XR, even though A12 was said to be the requirement.

Anyone on iOS 16 that can test so see if they are there? I’m talking about things like rain collecting on top of the forecast widget in the weather app.

Don’t see the rain splashing on A12’s Air 3.
