iOS 16 Public Beta 1: Text messages (non-iMessages) cannot be sent - error when trying

Just installed the new iOS 16 PB1 and so far so good - but I have a few contacts without iMessage, who I cannot text anymore.

They are returning with an error. Anyone tried the same?

I have the Dev Beta 3, which from what I have read is the exact same as PB 1, and having the same issue. Even have iMessage contacts where sometimes the messages will go green, even though I know the recipient is at home and connected to wifi with iMessage on. Sometimes it'll be blue, then go green (with can't send error), then back to fine.

Seems like it was on/off for a while but have solved itself so far. Very weird

I had the text message issue on a iOS15.5 iPhone yesterday and my wife as well. Maybe not related to the beta?

Updated to ios16 beta 2 earlier today. Can’t send sms to non iMessage users either. Changed to android phone = no issue. Receives sms just fine 🙁

Kinda related/unrelated. Sending something to self keeps popping up as sms and attachments unable to go through. Be it pic, document, links, etc… occasionally it’ll not be green (sms) but rarely. Unsure what’s causing it or a fix but assuming just a bug and reported.

I have updated to PB2 as well and still have the issue. Was actually solved for some time, so don't know what is wrong

Have now not been able to send non-iMessage messages at all for some time - but weirdly enough can send with pictures, so MMS is working, but not SMS :|
