Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

And as always they never have release notes/additional info of the update (such as CVE's listed), it's generally released a few hours later after the updates been available.

Edit: Its been updated :)

Audible alerts using the stock mail app still not working. Crazy that they have acknowledged the issue beginning in September of last year and still can’t get a core app to work properly.

I wonder if this truly fixes the CarPlay issue…in my 2022 BMW with iDrive 8, it seems every 2nd or 3rd time I get into the car, Apple CarPlay connects but doesn’t pull properly to the infotainment system so if I play a song in Apple Music the BMW system says “Unknown Artist, Unknown Track etc…”, but when I open CarPlay all is there. It’s a weird issue.

Will find out soon enough, will be doing plenty of driving this Easter Weekend.

Bricked my healthy iPhone 13 Pro. Black screen with restore image. First iOS update ever that went really wrong. Should have kept to my Apple routine to wait out any updates for at least two days.
I'm guessing you updated using an IPSW and not via OTA?

13 pro here, OTA update, worked fine.
Hope you manage to "unbrick" the device.

Didn’t fix anything for me.

Still a stuttering mess when swiping away notifications from the bottom of the stack.

Still no sound or haptics with Mail notifications.

IOS18 has been awful.

did you already have these problems before iOS 18.4?

Thanks. I finally had to do a restore. But even then the black restore screen eventually returned. Damn. I let the iPhone unattended while connected via USB due to other matters. Surprisingly, after about 30 minutes the phone suddenly managed to break out of the "cycle of death", came to action and signaled a successful restore. Unstable update for me and the last one I'll do so soon after release.

Mail was completely broken since 18.0 but was fixed and perfect with 18.3.

18.4 broke the sound and haptics for Mail and introduced the janky animations.
Sounds like a restore is in order. Zero issues you describe on 5 different devices running iOS 18.4.x. 18.3.1 broke push mail notifications on all 5 devices, and 18.4 fixed it. 18.4.1 although only out for a few hours has been rock solid for me.

Devices: 16PM; 15PM; 14P; M1 iPad Pro; iPhone SE 2020.

my problem with iOS 18.4 is that when I turn my phone off and on, there are some stutters when I try to open any app or go to the app library

after a few minutes, everything goes back to normal. I wanted to know if this was fixed in iOS 18.4.1
