Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Just had an issue on iOS 18.6.2 where I could not swipe between home screen pages on my iPhone 16 Pro no matter what I did.

Could swipe down for control center and swipe up for multitasking but not between home screens - locking the phone did not resolve it either.

Had to force restart.

Just updated this morning from 18.6.1. Nothing different so far (iPhone 14).
I tried update my iPad using ipsw (through ipsw.me) tried to download two times with failed verification during update (file corrupt). Finally OTA update with no issues.

Currently have 47 devices at work running it, including myself. Seems to work fine (iphone 14, 16, 16e, SE2022)
Haven't installed it on my private phone yet, will get to it this eve.

When I installed iOS 18.6.1 on my iPhone 14 Pro, my Favorites in Safari disappeared and all my browsing history is deleted (when viewing the history within Safari). However, if I go to Settings, then Safari and view the Website Data, I can see the history still there. I thought iOS 18.6.2 would fix it but it didn't. Any way to fix this?

Dang. 18.6.1 is working flawlessly for me. No reason to move up. What’s the changes?
It’s a security fix like @MCKLMT said, involving a vulnerability that could be exploited in a very specific way with a maliciously crafted image, or something like that. I think the malicious image file could just be loaded from a website, or sent to you via messages or mail.

Did you check if Safari has been disabled in iCloud settings?

Well, this are the results of iAppleBytes running the GeekBench 4 battery test:

IMG_3286.png

Most iPhones lose about 30-40 minutes of battery life, except the iPhone 15 and 16 which gain battery life with this security update.

My only thought is that they only had time to optimize the patch for the iPhone 15 and 16 to not affect their performance, and the raw, unoptimized patch for the A12, A13 and A15 is causing an excessive energy drain, and at the same time, losing overall performance according to GeekBench 6.

I hope you all stay in iOS 18.6 or higher because a ton of vulnerabilities were fixed with that version, versus only one vulnerability fixed in ImageIO in iOS 18.6.2

Let’s hope iOS 18.7 comes out more polished with this last patch and a few more included, but this is like the cat and mouse game… eventually there will always be new vulnerabilities that force us to update to potentially glitchy and buggy software…

18.6.2 makes my 13pro much warmer than 18.6.1, and shorter battery life. I am struggling if I will downgrade to 18.6.1

Yeah, the eternal dilemma between performance & efficiency, versus staying always on the latest version with the latest security patches regardless of the performance & efficiency of such version.

I think iOS 18.6.1 is a decent balance between security and performance & efficiency.

iPhone 16e here - battery life is much shorter on 18.6.2 than 18.6. Is there an easy way to downgrade at this point?
Yes, you can still downgrade to iOS 16.8.1 which seemed much more polished, offering much less heating and better battery life.

In order to do so, you must find the IPSW file, then using a Mac, restore the device. Be sure to save all your photos, media and important files externally (not Time Machine or automated backup, as it won’t load on a lower version), then proceed to restore (erase) the iPhone through Finder, selecting the iOS 18.6.1 when you press on “restore” while pressing the alt or shift key, I don’t remember which one of the two.

Good luck!

Is it worth upgrading? I have and iPhone 15 with iOS 18.6
Lately, I've been having a problem where the ringtone and alarm volume goes down to zero several times a day, and I've missed important alarms. It only started happening to me on iOS 18, but more frequently on 18.6, and I doubt that it has been resolved.

I have a 15PM and have updated to 18.6.2 and have to say that iOS 18 is now what it should have been from the start! I really think that I will hold off on iOS 26 and let the 'dust settle' on it before I jump in this time. Even battery life on 18.6.2 is the best it has been for me on any previous iOS 18 version.
