Additional Notes
To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

iOS 18 lives to see another DAY!

I will ride out iOS 18 until Apple stops supporting it.

If you go to Software Updates and see "iOS 18 is up to date" and the option for iOS 26 is at the bottom, you can assume Apple will keep pushing iOS 18 updates. If you go to Software Updates and it gives you iOS 26 right there, then you know it's time.

Will be interesting to see how long apple will support devices that can be updated to ios26 with iOS 18 updates.
Normally they stop around when the x.1 of the latest OS is being released

Last year 17.7 was released alongside 18... and there was a 17.7.1 (Oct 28 2024) and a 17.7.2 (Nov 19 2024). This is for all devices since 18 didn't drop support for any. Safe to say there could be an 18.7.3 in November/December

Especially as there still seems to be quite a lot of bugs in 26.1. Seems like it maybe a case of waiting for the release of 26.2 for them to resolve most of these.

17.7.1 was released at the same date as 18.1, and then there was one more update (17.7.2) three weeks after, after that the support was dropped for devices that could upgrade to the latest iOS version.

Will be interesting if they stick to their regular pattern or will continue to support iOS 18 for all devices for a bit longer this year.
 
After all this IOS 18 iterations I just can't believe silencing alarm or phone ringer when face ID detect face doesn't work. Are they paying beta testers or we all beta testers in fact?
Attention-Aware Features are ON but obviously they now only works for display dimming and not for sound related things.

I work in IT since the eighties, have a master degree in computer science and care for security! 😎
But should I risk the user experience of my phone? I will be really pi**ed if the update kills that!

Nobody writes about positive aspects of this update - seems to be loved only because 26 is so bad? 🤔

Well, we are in the same profession then and you know what a CVE is, where to check the CVE score, the risks if you don't update and potential workarounds. For me a secure device is part of the user experience. For others, it might be that the photos app looks the same.

18.7.2 will be the final version for devices that are supported by iOS 26.

15.7.2, 16.7.2, and 17.7.2 were the final versions released for devices that supported the newer OS.

Its never a bad thing to try other devices. Personally I am looking forward to a "third" option that's not Android or Apple whenever or if that will appear. Have been looking at Sailfish for some time, hopefully they will get a boost and become more commercially available and not be dependent on Google Play

That's exactly, what I also investigate!
A generic Android (f. e. a Pixel 9) and GrapheneOS seems interesting! 👍
