iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 will include a preinstalled Preview app from Apple, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a lengthy report outlining his WWDC 2025 expectations today, Gurman said that the Preview app will provide iPhone and iPad users with an all-in-one, built-in solution for managing, editing, and annotating PDF documents.

The app will look similar to Apple's longstanding Preview app on the Mac, he said:
The software looks similar to the Mac version, and its launch screen is in the same style as apps like Pages and Keynote. It includes a big logo on the top portion of the screen advertising the Preview name and a gallery of document options below it.
Gurman did not say if the Preview app on the iPhone and iPad will also offer basic image editing abilities, like it does on the Mac.

iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 will be announced during Apple's WWDC 2025 keynote, which begins on Monday, June 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

REALLYY???? I can’t believe it.
This is game changing even if redesign would not be so good.

I have always dreamed of having preview on my iPhone but especially needed that on iPad. This is so convenient. Preview was always king on Macs because it allowed not to rely on complicated apps like Photos to organize shots, for me legacy “sorting by folders” is much more convenient, I know exactly where I store which shots

No device should come without a simple PDF editor to add and edit text, add, remove and sort pages.
But Apple loves that sweet cut of the subscription-based apps that offers absolutely nothing after the first download and that should clearly be one-time-payment $5 apps instead. Or freeware, if Apple didn't build the store to make it impossible not to lose money with freeware.
I hate how hard it is to even understand if a "free" app with IAP will do anything useful before I pay.

I don’t support this. A lot of redundancy with files (which should be finder). Preview should be a service, not an app.

I'm not so sure. I prefer the 'service' in Files being more of a QuickLook type feature, if i want to edit a PDF, or image, you then move into the Preview app. Just opening the app will also then give you a quick overview of recent files.

I’m in favor of this but I wonder if it “sherlocks” a bunch of existing PDF apps, like Readdle’s PDF Expert for example.
Or one of the best PDF editing apps I’ve found lately, which has a single in-app purchase to unlock all the features, no subscription: Noteful: Note-Taking on PDF. Well worth checking if out.

As for the rumor, even tho with Noteful I’ve found a PDF editor that works for my needs, it would be great to have the native Preview App across all the devices, syncing our PDFs through iCloud.

Hopefully, it won’t break when doing a search in a hundreds-of-pages long PDF… like it’s been happening in Files since iOS 14 or 15…

I'd just take Apple putting attention to a macOS Preview that supports a more recent PDF release and kills the many, many bugs. Bonus for a Preview that doesn't eat PDF Forms. That would be nice. I spend an inordinate amount of time explaining to users how they CAN'T use Preview for random PDF files and need to use Adobe Reader. Introducing an iPhone version of Preview isn't going to make those sporadic headache-inducing conversations more rare. Sigh.

This is awesome 😎 my first Mac was the iMac 🖥️ G4 (which of course had Preview built in) so I’ve been using this app since I was a kid and it is definitely awesome to see Apple potentially bringing it to iOS

Preview is definitely nostalgia for any Mac user since the early days - before widespread compatibility of mainstream software for the Mac

My favorite feature of Preview on macOS is probably the ability to select an item from the desktop (or finder window) and view it just by pressing the spacebar on the keyboard. In modern versions of macOS, video clips even play (with the benefit of not even having to open any app)

The app icon for this new Preview app is awesome 😎 design team did a nice job 👍👌
