In iOS 26, Apple is introducing several new features for its Messages app, and this one in particular is likely to make interacting with message bubbles way less frustrating.

When you tap and hold on any message bubble, a new "Select" option now appears alongside the familiar copy and reaction choices, finally solving one of Messages' most persistent frustrations.

The Select feature allows you to highlight specific portions of text within a message rather than copying the entire message. Simply tap and hold any message bubble, choose "Select" from the contextual menu, and then use the drag handles to highlight exactly the text you need. It works across all message types, including text messages and iMessages.

The new selective text feature should come in handy in a range of scenarios. For example, if someone shares a lengthy message containing multiple pieces of information – like an address, phone number, and restaurant recommendation – you can now copy just the address for pasting into the Maps app.

It's a big improvement over the previous all-or-nothing approach where tapping "Copy" would grab the entire message content, forcing you to manually edit out unwanted portions later. Apple is expected to release the first public beta of iOS 26 imminently, with a general release coming in the fall.

And let me guess, they did not fix the same kind of problem in Safari? When you want to copy the text of an anchor in both iOS/ipadOS and macOS you can’t do it… a bug since forever.

TBH, I find the text selection on iOS the most frustrating thing ever. When it was first released it seemed to work fine, but at one point it changed into something completely unusable. There are just so many issues with it.
  • Sometimes it won't let you select text when you want it to
  • Sometimes it already selects the whole centence, or just a single word when you only want to place the cursor
  • Sometimes you want to place the cursor somewhere, but it won't let you
  • Sometimes you want to place the cursor somewhere but it moves as soon as you let go
  • When you want to move the cursor to the correct position after it has moved, it suddenly selects the text instead.
  • The magnifying glass is always on a different spot, or doesn't show at all.
It just really suck!

Wow. Just at 1099$.
I mean, they have the brains and the money to fix all those stupid things... seems they do not want to?

What are those beautiful wallpapers? Both look incredible!
You can customise message chat backgrounds by tapping on the name at the top of the chat, an edit page slider will give you background options and those wallpapers are under the “Sky” menu.

Copying text in iOS from different places/apps has always been hit and miss.

I welcome partial text selection in messages. Sometimes I just want to quote a word or sentence in a long message. Doing it after the fact feels like more work.

All at once? Come on. They need to have something to announce in the following years.
Apple = innovation …. /s

Cool! Now give us the ability to:

1) Archive conversations that I don't need in my inbox but don't want to delete
2) Add our name into group chats so it's not just random numbers (think about a bachelor party group chat where you know some people but don't need to save everyone's contact)

Glad they finally add that. It annoying have to copy whole thing then paste it and delete parts you don’t want. Hope it works well when public version release in September.

This is the biggest annoyance since iOS 17. While writing a document, If you misspelled a word or it *thinks* a word is misspelled, even after it corrects the word, it remembers that and won’t let you place your cursor NEAR that word without selecting it completely. And to tap away causes it to select it again. Even if the word was typed five minutes ago. If the word is at the end of a sentence, you can’t place your cursor at the end of that sentence without a struggle.
Trying to even explain it is difficult. It’s maddening.
Doesn’t affect typing on this web site, for some reason. Doesn’t happen if auto correct is disabled.
What to do?

Maybe they should focus on fixing the bug in ios 18 where when u manually delete and even in recently deleted texts they dont delete from the servers end. Its been a bug in the messages app since 18.2 Ive reported it many times. And so have others. Apple remains silent on the issue. I even spoke to apple and they said it takes 1-4 days for texts to delete from the servers end. So its not doing this and has been a problem since 18.2
