I am on OS 26.1 and iPhone SE3.

In safari in almost search field or text box - including this forum right here when I tap on the box to type the screen is covered up by a black box.

I can still type but I can not see what I am typing till I tap on the tick mark or tap outside the box to remove it - thus leaving the text box.

I am using a different browser to make this post here as it’s too difficult to use Safari now because of this bug.

Is anyone else experiencing this?
If so have you found a way to fix it?

Can anyone shed some light in why it is happening?

I have had weird behaviour with safari search boxes since 26 launched. I don't get the black box though. I've no idea what the tick box or the up down arrows are for either? This needless box often covers up the input area im typing into so I can't edit the text if I make a mistake which happens more often because I can't see what im typing. Everything Apple does these days is broken, ill thought out, bugged or just plain ass stupid. FYI I also get that empty pill box thing you see in your screen shot above the aforementioned useless pill box thing with arrows and a tick.

@SparklyApple
Thank you, that ministry worked.
Changes the tab settings for Safari to compact. That fixes the main issue for me. Not sure how or why that seems to fix it but it does.

@TumbleDryer
Even after the fix, the oval tick box still exists hen I type anything in. Sure I can live with it, but why does it even exist? I think it’s just something that needs removal from the app code. It serves zero purpose.

Thank you both for your help and insights.

[edit]
After playing around with the tab settings, it seems only the “bottom” tab setting causes the large box to appear and cover up your text boxes.
The “compact” and “top” tab settings do not cause the issue.

That tab setting is certainly broken in iOS 26.1.

Doesn't fix anything for me. This is what I get for MR but it varies for various sites.
