I installed iOS 4.0 on my wife's 3G a week ago and she hates it. It's unuseably slow. You've been warned.

I will also say 4.0 on my 3GS is awesome.

Did you do an upgrade? Do a clean install without restoring from backup and things should work better.

how are you guys installing ios4.0 when I click update in iTunes it says it is up todate?

thought it was not out yet

I would beg to differ. Its is definitely useable on my 3G and things open the same if not quicker with iOS4 than it did with 3.0. Yes i do wish that folders and apps would open and close faster but it surely is smoother. You no longer get apps that just open and close, you actually get the open and closing animations.

Overall i like it. Accept for a few bugs the GM has it is pretty good if not better than 3.0 was.

And im getting iPhone 4 in 7 days too so i'll live!

developers get it and you can download it illegally on the internets

it comes out to the general public June 21st I believe

I honestly find it to be kind of a mixed bag. Some things, like flipping through the home screen pages, opening some apps, are definitely a bit faster. Maps, however, seems to take waaaaay longer than it ever did to load up to the point where I can start using it. All in all though I like it better than iOS 3, and in a week my iPhone 4 will make any problems with it all better :)

so these guys are running some quirky beta test version no wonder they are having problems. I bet the final update will work as it should.

The GM build that has been available since the conference IS the final version hence the name GOLD MASTER thats what it means. It does run slow on the 3g compared to the 3gs, had I known, I also wouldn't have upgraded my 3g, not worth it.

Considering downloading and installing an app on the iPad causes other programs to run like dogs (videos lose synch etc), I don't expect much from "multitasking" on my 2G Touch using the new OS.
