Just got the iPhone 4, and my 3GS was on 4.1 beta 3 so i had to put my 4 on 4.1 beta 3 as well.

I was looking at my messages and i noticed that the bubbles are low res, as in normal resolution, not retina quality.

So i restored my phone back to 4.0.2 as a clean install just to see the message bubbles - turns out they are retina quality.

I updated back to 4.1 beta 3 clean install and the bubbles are low quality again.

Is anyone else experiencing this with the 4.1 betas, or is my phone special?

Thanks,

:apple:Matt

A couple screenshots would help.

Probably a good idea.

Here.

You can see it in the green bubble, the text input area and the sending bar. Was much sharper on 4.0.2 and i got a friend to send a screen of his messages in 4.0.2 (deleted it now) and it was also sharp.

The send button nor the progress bar in that picture is retina either.

It looks like the whole screenshot is non-retina - just look at the top bar and keyboard.

Seems that iTunes is installing the iOS thinking it's 3GS rather than iP4.

Considering the screenshot is 640x960 I would have to say that you are wrong. The "retina" look really depends on the ppi of the display you're viewing the screenshot on.

This is what I thought but the rest of the firmware is retina quality. I don't understand why just the messages app has low res graphics.

Is no one else experiencing this?

You're an a$$hole. What exactly did you gain by posting that...
Why thank you for the compliment =), I haven't been called an ******* in quite some time.
Honestly, this whole retina quality superior thing has gone to far IMO. Yes, it's wonderful to see your iphone more vivid. But it seems like people lives are depending on this whole retina thing. So what if you see the text message in a "Low quality" point of view? Does it really matter?

Yes it matters because it's a bug in the beta software.

I guess if we didn't care about bugs you wouldn't mind having a laggy and always-crashing phone?

You probably dont have an i4.
You will never understand us:D

Oh no! Not in retina quality! What shall we do!

It's not that it's low-quality, it's that a built-in Apple app doesn't have hi-res graphics. I understand with an app from the app store, but this is the messages application. This is clearly a bug and i wanna know if anyone else is experiencing it.
