I am a registered developer on my university's Apple developer program, so I can develop apps and run them on the iPad. I could really do with access to the new framework changes in 4.2, but the university developer program does not include access to the 4.2 beta. If I "obtained" the ipsw from other sources, would it work with my developer certificate?

Anyone can download (if they can find it) the beta once it goes to the GM release. So go find it and you can install it.

According to this Apple site you do get access to the latest SDK.

Better to get a legit version that something off a torrent site.

Ask you developer account administrator to sort it out for you

I see I should be eligible to use 4.2 anyway, however I can't see the downloads when I login to the developer site. Anyway, by other means, I've got 4.2.1 now. When I try to update to it in iTunes, it gives an error ("not compatible"). Does it need to be in DFU mode to install? It will definitely work once installed?

I've been able to find the last two 4.2GM's and install them, but for whatever reason, I can't find a link to the 4.2.1 8C148 that was released today....

Old age I guess...

Edit: Found it.
