Found my own answer, but thanks.

The .ipsw is a compressed update file. When installed, the iOS takes up more space. So I am right that you would have less space.

I thought I would ask this in here instead of making a new thread. Since I updated to 4.3.1, my iPad has been pretty buggy. Is there any way to downgrade back to 4.3?

Complain to the place you bought it from of backlight bleeding and get a new one with 4.3?

I haven't got backlight bleeding. It was fine with iOS 4.3, but since I upgraded to 4.3.1, the memory management seems really off. I don't want a new iPad 2, I just want to downgrade back to 4.3
