If you value your multitasking gestures on your iPad, don't just yet update to iOS 4.3.3, until more information is available as to how (and whether or not) it will preserve the gestures.

Read this thread.

[EDIT] Apparent this issue only exists when you use Redsn0w to jailbreak your iPad. Thanks to Charadis for the tip. Use PwnageTool and you'll be OK.

Read this thread.

Try using a different Jailbreaking tool to jailbreak. I used Redsn0w at first and, like you, lost the option for Multitasking Gestures.

Download the PwnageTool and create a custom firmware of iPad iOS 4.3.3. Follow instructions from the program to put you system into DFU mode. When you restore the iPad through iTunes with your custom iOS 4.3.3, you should have the multitasking settings restored in the General Settings.

I updated to 4.3.3 and still have the gestures. It's an iPad 2, obviously non-jailbroken, enabled in 4.3 with Xcode 3.2.2, updated each time and not restored.

I think I'll wait till I see if someone that did the icopybot method on a iPad 2, upgraded to 4.3.3, and didn't lose gesturing before I upgrade. So far... it seems like iPad 1 jailbreakers are running into this issue.

Thanks. I am working on it now, and will report back.

Cool, no prob. I think it's a problem with RedSn0w. Good luck; if you're still having problems, you could try restoring to the nonmodified iOS 4.3.3 and see if this would restore the Multitasking Gestures option in your system.

Just to add to what I did to your other thread. I have an iPad 2 and enabled this when I first got it using Xcode 4. Now with iOS 4.3.3 the gestures are still there.

damn!

lol just updated

love multi gestures

iPad 2? Seems like iPad 2 owners still have gesturing. Did you do xcode or icopybot on pc to enable gesturing?

If you've updated your iPad with the Redsn0w jailbreak, the Multitasking Gestures will be removed from your system.

You should still have the Multitasking Gestures if you updated from the official firmware from Apple, or if you jailbreak using a program other than the current version of RedSn0w.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! It worked!
PwnageTool rocks!

I used to build the ipsw, put iPad in DUF, opt-restored with custom ipsw, then connect with Xcode. Vola! Multitasking gesture menu was back! Then it connect back to iTunes, and restore from backup, and gesture was still there, along with everything else!

Sorry to get some of you alarmed. Apparently the problem was with redsn0w. If you don't jailbreak, then it should be fine to update to iOS 4.3.3.

I didn't jailbreak since I have an iPad 2. I'm still hesitant since I used the icopybot method. Hope an iPad 2 owner that used icopybot confirms they still have gesturing after upgrading to 4.3.3.

nvm!

I'm on an iPad 2.

I still have multi-gestures with ibackupbot

is there anything special with 4.3.3?

i just updated because i saved all my SHSH blobs with tinyumbrella.

so doesn't really matter to me

If a new iPad 2 comes with 4.3.3 preinstalled, is it still possible to use the XCode method to enable gestures without jailbreaking?

Glad to hear your success! This confirms that RedSn0w is definitely the culprit then. I was in your position only a couple hours ago and got that sick feeling in my stomach thinking there was no hope. Multitasking Gestures has grown on me. Too much.

Cheers

I used iBackupbots on iPad 2 also. So you did lose gesturing after upgrading to 4.3.3?

I don't have my iPad yet; it was ordered recently. If it comes with 4.3.3, I want to know if I can still enable gestures or not without having to jailbreak.

You don't need to jailbreak to enable gesturing. Plus there hasn't been a jailbreak released for the iPad 2 yet. 4.3.3 users on the iPad 2 haven't had any issues, so Xcode should work fine when you get your iPad 2

?? I had no problem enabling the gestures on my two devices on 4.3.3 using redsn0w.

Me neither. Did it just now with redsn0w 0.9.6rc16 on Mac. Fresh restore to iOS 4.3.3 on my iPad v1 (setting up as new iPad, without restoring from backup.) Then I jailbroke with redsn0w, and checked the boxes (inside redsn0w) to Install Cydia, and to Enable Multitouch Gestures.

Sure enough, I now have Multitouch Gestures, along with a setting to disable them inside Settings -> General.
