Seriously, what's up with that. The new text tones are simply awful. They are really not even text tones, just shortened ringtones.
They way I see it, proper text tones should be:
- SHORT (i.e. no longer than 1 second)
- distinctive
- sharp/crisp enough to be heard while, say, walking down the street with the phone in your pocket.
The only iPhone tones that meet these criteria are the original Chime, Glass, Horn, and Bell. Which is why everybody used them. Which is why we needed new ones.
For a company so obsessed with the details (as they should be), Apple has given this particular detail short shrift. Shame.
