Hello to everyone who is reading this thread.
I am trying to update my old iPhone 2g with 3g 4.0 fw. I used 7-zip to edit the "SupportedProductTypes" key in restore.plist. I changed it from "iPhone1,2" to "iPhone1,1" and now at least I don't get the "not compatible fw" error. But I still get error 3002 after the "apple activation server" process. Any suggestions on how to bypass this process or error?

I know this doesn't help but my iPod Touch that has basically the same speeds as the 2G was slowish with iOS3, wouldn't it be suicidal to go with 4?

Maybe, but I still would like to see it running on iOS4. 3g does, why 2g shouldn't?

The iPhone dev team is working on this. If it was as simple as changing a couple files, we'd all know about it by now.

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but you are gonna have to wait if you want OS 4. It'll most likely be a few months before they have it running well, and release it.

In this case, here's what I feel about your current endeavor:

Proof of concept: go for it. Sounds awesome!
For daily use: get ready for the blue smoke.

Good luck

Maybe it isn't as simple as I think it is. Do you have the link to the info on dev team working on the iOS 4 for 2g?

Sure.

NB: With PwnageTool 4.0**PwnageTool 4.01 certain devices are not supported**this is because they are not supported in iOS 4.0 or they are not supported by our software. *We’re working on ways to get past these restrictions.

iPhone 2G *- not supported
iPod Touch - not supported
iPod Touch 3G - not supported

it's in the first post on their blog.

Sure.

Thanks but I don't think that it's about porting the iOS4 on 2g...

check this out http://www.whited00r.com/

I havent tried this since I upgraded to a 3GS from my 2G

Thanks but this is just another customized 3.1.3 fw that looks like iOS4 and is still buggy.

I think what they mean by that is they are working on the new bootrom 3GS, MC model iPod touch, and the iPod touch 3G. I don't *think* they have any plans for porting iOS 4 to the iPhone 2G.

Agree.
