I did a restore (not update, but a blank install of iOS4) on my iPad Wifi-3G, and the wallpaper i used for my Lock & Home screen looked flawless and good quality that I designed for a business I'm working with and was trying out the look on my iPad and decided to put it back on the newly updated iPad....but for some reason or another the quality just looks like crap.
When I view the image in my email on the ipad, or safari on the ipad the image looks fine like its intended.
However when i press and hold to save the image, in the saved photo album it looks highly compressed and out of quality...it becomes noticeable when I zoom into it or put it as a wallpaper.
The file is barely 290kb and 1024x1024
the files if you want maybe probe and let me know if perhaps I'm doing something wrong or what:

if you also notice the ipadredcircle file and the aemipadwallpaper file look fine on a browser or emailed, but when saved they look highly compressed.
needless to say on the iOS prior to iOS4 on this ipad they looked normal/fine...

also, it doesnt seem to make a difference whether I email them to myself and save them, download them from the website or sync them from iPhoto.
Also noticed it happened to photos from our Flickr page too, http://www.flickr.com/photos/anexometa/
so, i'm not sure if its the color we're using or if its someting the ipad settings are compressing.
thanks again.
