Hello, just a quick question. I've noticed that the dictionary in iBooks is not working, and this problem persists from Beta 1. Is there any specific reason why it has not been addressed yet, except for the fact that this is only a beta? I mean, if it's a known bug, why not fix it? Just wondering. Thanks!

Sorry for the standard answer: please raise an entry in Apples bugreporter under the web Adress: bugreporter.apple.com

They will take care about it or let you know if the problem is known ...

Jesus all these beta threads, you're there to report the bugs to apple!!!!! Not us :0.

I did already, but I was just wondering. No big deal.

And it wasn't a bug report to you guys, but a question.

Thanks for the reply!

So you updated to iBooks 1.3.1 and have beta 7?

Yes. When I press Dictionary (still isn't "Define" which is what the system wide one calls it) it shows a blank definition.

In Safari I don't even get a "Define" option.

Does the system wide dictionary work for you?

The system wide dictionary hasn't presented any issues and does work. The iBooks dictionary didn't work till I got 1.3.1; it simply showed a blank definition.

I reported the problem to them and they asked me to reset my settings, which did not fix it.

I hope the GM addresses it. If not, I will have to reinstall iOS and hope it fixes it.

I really loved the dictionary when it worked lol

It's smart do do a clean install of every beta anyways (after your OTA fun of course). I've noticed odd bugs that go away after a clean install.

(iOS 5 beta) iBooks's Dictionary Problem is fixed

You don't have to do any clean install at all.
In fact, :apple: has noticed that bug and fixed it already.
All you need to do is to UPDATE your iBooks App from App Store. (The Latest Version of iBooks is 1.3.1-Sep 30,2011)

As a few people have mentioned, it is not fixed at all either with a clean install or an update. I have the latest version and it was a clean install. It does not work.

I fixed my iBook dictionary (that was empty) by opening an sms and wrote:
test
did a "define" and click the "manage" button in the empty dictionary, this allowed me to download different language dictionaries! and they now show up in iBooks also :)
strangely I was not able to download them in iBooks..
